The New York City Policing Roundtable (NYCPR) fosters continuing
relationships between civil rights attorneys, community organizers,
advocates, community members, and others who work to end police
misconduct. NYCPR seeks to reduce police misconduct in New York City by
community organizing, advocacy, public education, litigation support,
and research.
NYCPR members believe that organizing around highly publicized and
severe acts of police misconduct, or pursuing piecemeal litigation
strategies for the compensation of individual plaintiffs, have not led
to sustained reforms in the operations of the New York City Police
Department. Therefore, NYCPR seeks to create consistent links between
advocates, organizers, and community members, and a steady drumbeat of
combined voices calling for improved policing.
ROUNDTABLE:
Members of the Roundtable share information, advocacy strategies, and
new policy and legal developments by participation in group meetings and
listservs.
COPP: The
NYCPR Community Oversight of Policing Project (COPP) advocates and
organizes to reduce police misconduct. Law students, organizers, and
volunteers engage in both individual advocacy and community organizing
with grassroots coalitions fighting police misconduct.
